Aidan Monks is on a mission to reclaim the grain.
Bread is one of the most important foods in the human diet – we’ve been eating it for at least 14,000 years. But in just three generations many have come to think of it as a ”naughty” food associated with dietary problems and illness; a ”bad” food that symbolises everything that’s wrong with the modern food industry.
Aidan has been baking bread by hand for more than 30 years, winning multiple national and local food awards, including the coveted Baker of the Year.
In this inspiring talk, Aidan will argue that good bread deserves to reclaim its status as a nutritious daily staple – nourishing not only our bodies but potentially our soils as well. Explaining terms such as ”sourdough”, ”slow fermentation”, ”ancient grains” and ”stoneground’‘, he will also discuss the role of gluten, the significance of gut health and the reasons why he is so committed to baking with organic ingredients and heritage cereals.
During this delicious and interactive evening, there will be time to ask Aidan your bread and baking questions and taste many of the delicious Lovingly Artisan loaves that are now on sale in Booths Kendal.
You’ll leave with a goody bag to take home and enjoy for breakfast, ready to discover that the bread is good for your gut health.
