Kendal Farmers Market Food School
Kendal Farmers Market is proud to announce the Kendal Farmers Market Food School. Our aim is to create an informal gathering in the market square, under canvas, on old-fashioned benches – nothing too fancy. It’s about creating a wholesome place of learning and caring for others.
On the second Friday of every month, you will find our storytellers, starting with a butcher, baker, and cheesemonger. The spirit is generosity, gifting knowledge to new generations of cooks and kids.
If you’ve ever felt unsure about how to cook a Sunday roast, how best to spatchcock a chicken or what makes the perfect gravy, then this is where you need to be heading. Yes, it’s for you and the kiddies. And sometimes they’ll be tasters too.
From Friday 12 July visitors to the bi-weekly market will be treated to a feast for the senses, celebrating local, fresh ingredients and fostering community connections.
What Is the Kendal Farmers Market Food School?
The Food School is more than just a market. It’s an educational destination where knowledge meets flavour and favours. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn how to prepare fresh local ingredients, as producers and stallholders from the market take to the stage, and share insider tips, and skills. They will also share their insights and demystify the world of food through stories about their food journey, any challenges and triumphs faced along the way.
Here’s what you can expect:
Live Demonstrations: Producers and stallholders take the stage to share their expertise. From spatchcocking chickens to crafting sourdough. Each 30-minute session will offer practical skills and insider insights.
David Knipe (11am) – Heartwood Free Range Poultry demystifies chicken preparation.
Graham Kirkham (12pm) – Mrs Kirkham’s Cheese delights with cheese knowledge and samples.
Aidan Monks (1pm) – Lovingly Artisan Bakery dives into gut health and the magic of sourdough.
It’s not just about buying; it’s about understanding why quality matters. There will also be lots of flavourful conversations and connections, where visitors meet the faces behind their food, and producers share their food journeys, challenges, and triumphs.
