Do you remember last year when the Forty Farms Fair gathered at Rheged?
Well, we certainly had an incredible time! And gather again we do, yet differently. You may ask what’s different – fair question! The theme is food, fireside crafting traditions, weaving knits and tales. Definitely one for the calendar.
Our community cheese mongers, butchers, cakers, bakers and makers, once again come together on 18 November 2023 to celebrate the new season ahead, creating a feast and cooking up a storm for all to enjoy. Sounds like a dream!
Rheged sits on the edge of the Northern Lakes.
It is one of the most inspirational locations, the perfect backdrop and now visualise this with forty of our great farming friends. Regional taste bud teasing, sourdough treats of the region from our Lovingly Artisan, Thornby Moor Dairy’s Alderdale Cheese, cheeky treats from Ginger Bakers and so much more. The list is endless!
Mind-inspiring exhibitions and creative spaces dedicated to a bit of note-taking or knitting and a of course nattering.
Meet up with your mates and do something completely different next Saturday 18 November. We’d love you to join us. The Lovingly Artisan Bread Truck will be parked up early so kick off your duvet and get the day started by joining us for a scrumptious breakfast pastry treat and brew; nimble your way through our Bear Claws accompanied with a free cappuccino’s babyccino – yep this one’s on us and mingle (maybe with a Cinnamon Swirl), twisting your way around the craft and food-fill stalls – it’s a no brainer!
Re-energise your soul with Jan Beadle, who is sharing her knowledge and learn the art of leno weaving by creating yourself a scarf. Wander around the creator’s and crafter’s stalls, gifting yourself with new skills and absorb the atmosphere.

Back by popular demand, our Christmas Farmers Market returns with stalls full of local produce, crafts and gift ideas ready for the festive season ahead. Our Lovingly Artisan Bread Truck will be serving brews & tasty bites. For a little retail therapy, over 35 stands meet the local cheese mongers, butchers and bakers, producers of all kinds of tipples.
There are free talks throughout the day in the Lecture theatre and a chance to win a special hamper. All hamper proceeds will go to the Growing Well, an incredible Cumbrian charity and this year, Lovingly Artisan’s charity of choice.

11.00am – Surviving Adversity | Join Lisa owner of Ginger Bakers and hear her journey of turning an idea into a business. Free entry
12.00pm Hedgerow Baking | Our local British Bake-off star, Abbi Lawson from Tebay will talk about her baking experience, her favourite foraged and locally grown ingredients and share some of her favourite moments from appearing on the Great British Bake Off. Abbi works with Home Grown Here, one of the food exhibitors at the Fair. Free entry
1.00pm – Cheese, Gelato & Weddings – Making a Family Dairy Farm Sustainable | Jen Lee shares her 10 year journey including creating Cumbria’s first Organic and 100% pasture fed dairy herd to producing Torpenhow Cheese and Three Hills Gelato. Free entry
2.00pm – In conversation with Michelin-starred chef Ryan Blackburn| Ryan looks at some of the ingredients available in Cumbria, the people who produce them and some top tips on how to use them in your home kitchen. Free entry
3.00pm – The Farmer’s Wife | A Memoir with Recipes. Join Helen who will share stories from her new book ‘The Farmers Wife’ from motherhood, food and love to finding her place in our modern world.
