Going Greener with Polin and Lovingly Artisan
Going greener with Polin with Lovingly Artisan, since installing our Polin Wood Pellet Oven from Brook Food & Bakery Equipment in August 2021, Lovingly Artisan has saved 35% on energy bills. This was all about going greener with Polin and Lovingly Artisan, a new way of thinking about all we do with the planet in mind.
The Polin oven is reducing our overall environmental impact considerably, and if you’re buying from our greener Lovingly Artisan bakery, you can now reduce your impact on the environment too. We have all been going greener with Polin and Lovingly Artisan.
Running a modern-day bakery with the planet’s needs in mind is far from easy, yet Lovingly Artisan had already begun to make changes. These changes started with the choice to use organic flour, the introduction of new packaging, delivery road time changes and now a new Polin wood-pellet oven.
A wood pellet oven is classified as ‘zero emission’ because the pellets being burnt are made from compressed sawdust, a by-product from forestry operations. This means they only release the same amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by wood into the atmosphere that would be released during the normal decomposition cycle. Resulting in an impact on the environment equal to zero, unlike fossil fuels, such as gas and coal, which are currently used to produce most of the electricity used by conventional ovens.
The bakery’s determination and motivation to deliver a more green strategy has already seen phenomenal results in just a few months. Since installing the Polin Wood Pellet oven our energy bills have reduced by a staggering 61%, with a net saving of 35% on energy bills each month. We’re are delighted that the oven has helped them make a significant change to their carbon footprint and deliver on their green strategy.
Aidan Monks, Owner of Lovingly Artsian commented: “To know that our new oven has reduced our emissions is a fantastic step in delivery of our green strategy. Plus to see such a fantastic saving in such a short period of time is very promising! We are also not naïve and need to give this time to see if these short term benefits lead to long-term gains.” It’s all about going greener with Polin and Lovingly Artisan.
Powered by energy-efficient pellets, the oven generates steam which runs through a series steam tubes that run through each oven deck. To utilise this energy, we use the heat from the steam from the oven to fuel their office. The Lovingly Artisan team are looking forward to the winter months, knowing that they are reducing their carbon footprint in the process. The offices for the first time ever feel like bliss, we are going to be toasty this year.
Aidan commented:
“The baking feels different and feels like we have taken that step-up as a baker to achieve a greener strategy. The improvement in the quality of the bread itself is even better and have had positive comments from customers which always makes it so rewarding.
Our bakery is quite small so the wood fire oven has created a nice soul and made the bakery feel alive and part of the experience. You also have to look after and care for the oven diligently each week, which does require extra time but it’s worth it for the positive impact the oven is making to our overall carbon footprint.”
Alongside energy savings, Aidan and his team have also seen huge savings on their time.During the lockdown, the demand for organic sourdough increased, and therefore the bakery needed the equipment to support the demand.
The Polin integrated loader using an automatic setter has had more time to focus on product development. The upgrading to a 10.6 sq meter Polin steam tube oven has meant their baking capacity has increased by 66%.This is a phenomenal increase for the team and has meant the team have a more efficient way of keeping up with demand.
We have a happy team that is proud of its production and product. The bakers can’t wait to get the best out of 2022, with new product lines, approaches, recipe development and more!
