Great ideas for UK holidays if you love sourdough
If your heading away this summer on your holidays – Let us come with you
If you’re holidaying in in the UK this summer, we’d love to come with you! If you’re anything like us, the car is always packed to the roof with very little space to spare!
There’s no doubt that there’s one thing we all love about a good old British holiday and that’s the weather! And if you’re heading anywhere up north, you’ll need to pack for all seasons, as unfortunately there’s a chance of seeing all four in one day.
That famous walking bod Alfred Wainwright once famously said: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.” So, with that in mind save your precious car space for hats, coats, scarves and wellies and let us deliver your bread to you.
Imagine this… your favourite Lovingly Artisan sourdough loaf or even our saffron buns delivered right to the door of your cosy holiday hideaway, perhaps with a few little additions too, like a delicious pot or two of Hawkshead Relish jam, some Lowther honey, all mailed out to your cosy holiday hideaway.
There as so many things that create truly great getaways…
- The opportunity to relax, unwind and experience a much slower pace of life.
- Time for that indulgent coffee or two to start the day right as you flick through your favourite magazine.
- The chance to linger over your morning walk with the dog and take everything in around you – god bless the dog!
- Devoting time for your favourite foods and a little menu planning
I’m going to set the scene for your UK staycation escapes, so you can start to picture yourself unwinding and getting away from it all… here are a few of our holiday must-haves:
1.St James cheese, made by Martin Gott, it’s an absolute favourite. We probably tuck away about half of Martin’s yearly production! It’s what Saturday nights are made for, and there’s no doubt at all its got the makings of a great holiday evening treat.
2.A bottle or two from Reserve Wines – Aidan’s beloved wine merchant. If you know Aidan, you’ll know that he’s preoccupied with his little wine app – VIVINO – he does his research and then pops in to see the team at Reserve each week to test his knowledge and order a drop or two to try. He loves nothing more than discovering new wineries and wine regions, exploring different grape varieties and refamiliarising himself with old favourites.
We wait to the weekend and indulge in our drinkies once the sun has set on a Saturday and there’s no more bread to bake until Monday, because you can’t be on you’re a-game as an artisan after a glass and be up at the crack of dawn to bake. But when it comes to hollibobs it’s all about sharing with friends and loved ones gather round the table enjoying a feast of food and a chilled delightful something to help wash all that lovely grub down.
3.We can’t forget the BBQ kit either and our travel Ooni pizza oven!
Now you know why we need our bread delivering! Yes, we use our own online nationwide bread delivery service so we can get fresh bread when we’re away. On our last trip to Wales, we ran out of sourdough and had to send an SOS to the bakery to get more sent pronto!
Beach BBQs are an absolute favourite thing to do, crusty bread and roasted garlic tomatoes for breakfast, garlic mushrooms and tarragon with a splash of soy sauce and crème fraiche – the simplest of foods, but so seriously tasty.
Then there’s the inevitable haul of cookery books. Books we haven’t had the time to explore in full get stashed in the car ready for our little getaways. We’re currently working through the Ottolenghi Flavour cookbook, which is totally inspirational! If you’ve got the book try the Miso Butter Onion recipe on page 258 – Unbelievably tasty and only three ingredients!
We are like so many of you, praying for a warm summer, time outside, alfresco cooking, lighting the pizza oven, a little star gazing, just time out. So many of us have worked through many phases of the pandemic, and we cannot wait to be pulling up to our holiday retreats with cars packed to the rafters – we’ll be heading to Wales again to our family favourite Gorwell Cottage... roll on July that’s all I can say!
