Happy birthday to us

We’re thirteen!!

Pass us those candles and put your best singing voices on – IT’S OUR BIRTHDAY! It has been 13 years since we opened our bakery at Plumgarths Lakeland Food Park, the home of Lovingly Artisan HQ. This is where Aidan and his team still hand mix and hand shape every sourdough loaf before it’s slow-proved and Lovingly baked to heaven-scented deliciousness. This is where they experiment with heritage British grains and sourdough techniques to create the innovative, nourishing loaves that have won award after award after award. This is where we opened our first Bread Store and have built the most supportive community of awesomely lovely customers that any small business could ask for. Thank you so much for being with us – just wait and see what we’ve got planned for our teenage years!

Let’s get Real

An extra slice of birthday toast, please, for the fabulous folks at the Real Bread Campaign, who are starting their 14th Real Bread Week (18-26 February) on the same day as our birthday. They work so hard to celebrate Real Bread and all the people who bake and buy it, reminding us why rejecting industrially produced, additive-laden bread and choosing handmade loaves from local bakeries is better for people, communities and the planet (sustainweb.org/realbread).

Local heroes

Speaking of real food from local sources, we’re proud as anything to be working with Cumbrian real food champions the Westmorland Family, owners of Tebay Services and the Rheged Centre near Penrith. You can find our real sourdough loaves and real handmade pastries in the Tebay Services Farmshop and Rheged’s Filling Station, where we deliver them daily as soon as they come out of our ovens. We love that someone might be popping in for petrol and unexpectedly discovers the joy of real sourdough – the way it tastes and makes them feel. Something else to make us smile on our birthday! xx
