Sustainable bakery future with British Baker
The world we live in feels very privileged right now, sleeping safely within our beds, family only a drive away, eating and drinking what we want and when we want. Yet everything currently unfolding in Ukraine is teaching us all about the value of life, freedom, and, more importantly, that nothing should be taken for granted.
When creating a sustainable bakery future, appreciation and gratitude for all we have are certainly two feelings at the forefront of our bakery minds.
Amy North of British Baker asked if we would join the discussion on maintaining a sustainable bakery business. We were keen to share our previous learning concerning our bakery changes alongside our thoughts and feelings on the future and a sustainable bakery future”.
None of us were prepared for all that was unfolding in Ukraine, and it is beyond belief. We have thought about our fellow bakers in Ukraine and how it must feel to have all your hopes, aspirations, and dreams ripped from under you, and within days. Perhaps this is what a real challenge looks like, and the impact will be comprehensive, much broader than the consumer can visualise. Sustainable bakery futures will be on the minds of the industry and many artisan bakers.
Through the past twelve months, navigating Lovingly Artisan has felt a bit like riding on a roller coaster, with too many challenges to name. Yet, nothing diminished our determination for the bakery’s sustainable future.
Food safety is becoming more and more of a conversation, and it’s undoubtedly sitting at the top of our agenda. All British bread producers are navigating themselves through uncharted waters. We are in a decade of uncertainty. The rise of wheat prices is beyond our imagination, and fuel prices and energy costs are unprecedented.
Our three concerns are:
- The rise of wheat costs and storage.
- Rapidly increasing fuel prices.
- The availability of ingredients.
- The introduction of green driving zones in Manchester and Trafford.
If, like us, you too are often inspired by others, listen to the broadcast, dive into the suggestions regarding creating a sustainable bakery future.
