Aidan Monks runner up with The Tiptree World Bread Awards
The Tiptree World Bread Awards is a Lovingly Artisan Bakery favourite during the pandemic. The awards refreshed their focus, choosing to celebrate bakery hero’s, bakers that go the extra mile for their community, devoting time to support others.
Lovingly Artisan gave time to helping budding bakers develop skills as artisan bakers, baking for the local communities, the salvation army, local schools raising funds, and much more.
The team at Lovingly Artisan bakes weekly, supporting Waste Into Wellbeing and Kendal People’s Cafe, two volunteer-led projects delivered by South Lakes Action on Climate Change (SLACC).
Following the temporary suspension of the Café in March 2020, Waste into Wellbeing developed the food shares project, which they delivered throughout 2020 in response to the pandemic.
Now running two weekly community food shares at Stricklandgate House and the Hallgarth Community Centre, Kendal, Waste Into Wellbeing provides vital support to struggling households, enabling all families to eat a healthy, balanced diet, nutritious diet, regardless of their income.
Two Cumbrian bakers with The World Bread Awards
This year’s Tiptree World Bread Awards were announced earlier last week, and it’s always an inspirational event. Lovingly, Artisan Aidan Monks is over the moon to be named Cumbria runner-up, alongside a Mike Hall from the Eden Valley. Two Cumbrian bakeries were announced as runners-up in the North-West Region for the Bread Heroes award category, showcasing the county’s artisan bakers’ continued passion for sourdough, baking and celebrating all that is great about our county.
Being shortlisted as a finalist and recognised has given us all a much-needed boost to a very hard working bakery team. Like many bakers, we are all dovetailing our lives alongside the pandemic, and it’s far from easy.
Being a bread hero isn’t about one event in the year. It’s a way of life for Lovingly Artisan. It’s a valued culture in the bakery we are proud to maintain throughout the year with the team. We have lots planned for this December, so much to share with you watch this space
