Our top tips for a tasty half-term holiday

Can they be here already? The half-term holidays, we mean – yippee-do!

It’s joyful to take time out during October half-term, the season of bracing walks, pumpkin soup and cheese-on-toast by the fire. Whether you’re staying at home or going on the road, we’ve got your bread needs covered.

We send our loaves and pastries by mail order anywhere in the country – that includes holiday cottages, caravan parks, friends’ houses and man sheds. Fancy an ancient-grain Einkorn Miche as a centrepiece for a family supper? A Lovingly wrapped bag of flaky French-butter croissants for an anniversary breakfast? A Spiced Apple & Sultana sourdough – aka ‘Autumn in a loaf’ – to give as a gift to your host?

Pick your favourite breads and choose a delivery day – plus any special messages if you’re sending bread as a gift (we hand-write every one). Each loaf and pastry is proved and baked to order, so please remember to order a few days in advance.

Trips and treats

If you’re lucky enough to be travelling (or staying home at) somewhere near our lovely Bread Stores in Cumbria or Altrincham, can we point you towards some delicious places to visit after you’ve done your bread shopping?

The Heaton Cooper Studio in Grasmere (15 miles from Lovingly HQ) exhibits original works from the renowned landscape artists Alfred and William Heaton Cooper. Its cool cafe – Matilde’s – has a Scandinavian style menu inspired by the Norwegian heritage of Alfred’s wife, Matilde. Look out for their beautiful smørrebrød (open sandwiches), little pieces of lunch art created on slices of our Danish Rugbrød (rye bread).

The Dunham Barn is a cute dog-friendly cafe on the doorstep of Dunham Massey, a National Trust house and garden less than three miles from our Alty Market Bread Stores. Their yummy breakfast and lunch menu features bread made by yours truly, and to walk it off you’ve got 300 acres of deer park to wander round.

We love Groobarbs Farm, a new veg enterprise in the Cheshire countryside (seven miles from Altrincham) growing produce for veg boxes. Its Field Kitchen is a proper field-to-fork dining experience where you can eat fabulous veggies in a barn within yards (and probably hours) from where they were grown and harvested. Under 12s eat for half price, and guess whose sourdough toast is on the menu?

And not forgetting . . .

Kendal Farmers Market

The best day out on the Cumbrian foodie’s calendar takes place at the end of half-term week (Friday 28 October). Join us and more than 30 other stallholders in Market Place (from 9am) to browse, taste and buy exceptional local produce, including sourdough breads, native-breed meats, fresh and smoked fish, farmhouse cheeses, garden honey, handmade pasta, exceedingly great cakes and brownies and ever so much more.

Happy half-term hols x
