Our northern bakery – Preparing you for Christmas.
Our northern bakery is preparing you for Christmas and it has been a whirlwind of activity, amidst major planning for the festive season ahead, estimating with anticipation how much sourdough may be enjoyed and devoured over Christmas festivities. It’s never easy, and luckily we like to rise early, get the ovens roaring with the motive of ensuring no one leaves empty-handed. Our northern bakery, is preparing you for Christmas
We have had a fantastic idea! Our northern bakery is preparing a not so secret stash of sourdough, all previously sliced squirrelled away in our northern Lovingly Artisan bakery freezer.
The bakery crew are also creating a mountain of Saffron Buns just awaiting the daily bake. We want you wanting for nothing from our northern bakery this season. We’d like to have a little bread frozen away for all those unexpected moments, if you are anything like us, we find this somewhat reassuring.

A top bakery tip
1. Make a little space this month in your freezer for your secret stash of Lovingly Artisan Sourdough.
2. Bring freezer bags with you on your December visit.
3. Request your additional loaves to be pre-frozen. Our frozen festive loaf supply has been carefully baked and placed straight into a deep freezer, ensuring the best quality. This ensures that you and your guests experience the best taste and texture experience from your sourdough.
4. When you have returned home, place your frozen loaves in the freezer straight away
5. If you’re using your loaves for toast, take all you require from the freezer each day for the toaster and toasting.
Christmas is a great time to explore something new, bread you wouldn’t usually explore. If you haven’t yet tasted our Danish Rugbrød, make it your must do this season. It’s delicious and nutritious, a must with salmon, cheese or toasted with honey and jam. Our Danish Rugbrod has an incredible shelf life. It’s a loaf that keeps giving, lasting up to 8 days (that’s if you haven’t eaten it all within days!)
We think it’s one of our best loaves, a bread we’re really proud of, and according to our Danish customers, we have created a faultless loaf. If this is way out of your comfort zone, make your second choice a Spiced Apple Sourdough.
My mum once told me our Spiced Apple Sourdough makes the most fantastic turkey or cheese sandwiches, and it has since become my Boxing Day afternoon treat.
For this loaf, we coat the Bramley apples in Cinnamon, then along with sultanas, fold the fruit into the sourdough, giving the loaf an incredible texture and crust. The combination of the fruits alongside meats and cheeses creates a taste sensation sandwich. The flavours and texture makes for the most fantastic sandwich. Even better it’s a taste sensation with St James Cheese!
Spiced Apple is one of those loaves that can be consumed from your morning breakfast with a generous spread butter through to afternoon teas and suppers at home with the family.
If you hesitate, and feel inclined not to take this advice, pause for a moment and imagine what you are missing. The Spiced Apple Sourdough is such a family favourite, if you store it in our Lovingly Artisan waxed bags you will find this loaf will last up to 5 days. This is also about preparing your taste buds too for Christmas.
The kiddies love this loaf. Once tasted, it’s a loaf you can’t resist. We have tried to think of everything for you. Storing an additional supply of sourdough in our freezer for you is driven by our desire not to disappoint. We think it’s a brilliant idea. But like all good ideas, it’s not for everyone.
